Topfreedom USA is a political action web site devoted to the notion that topfreedom is a basic civil right that should be afforded to all women, in the same manner that it is currently afforded to all men in this country. Our purpose is to introduce topfreedom to the general public, and ask each of you to genuinely consider the merits of our cause. Rather than simply dismissing topfreedom outright, as just another sexually motivated erosion of our society, please take the time to read our pages, and explore our links. Education and consideration of all views is the key to making the right decision, so please join us in exploring the implications of topfreedom.

You may be surprised to find that:

Topfreedom is not a sexual movement.

Topfreedom is a civil rights, equality based movement.

Topfreedom is not an effort to convince women to take their tops off in public.

Topfreedom is an effort to convince society that taking one's top of in public should not be deemed a criminal act by one sex, and at the same time a legal act by the other.

Until 1939 in America, it was illegal for men to take their shirts off in public.

Topfreedom actually de-emphasizes the sexuality of the female breast.

Topfreedom is not a slippery slope to public nudity.

Males and females should be held to the same genitals based standard defining public nudity, and indecency. Areas to be covered, and penalties for exposure should be the same for both sexes.

To put it simply:

Topfreedom is nothing more than an effort to give women who wish to the right to take their tops off in the same customary public places where men are allowed to remove their shirts, without threat of harassment, arrest, or other legal, or political deterrent.
